After a gruelling drive and border crossing from Malaysia to Singapore for me, the kids arrived at 1:00 a.m. at Changi Airport. We drove from Singapore back to Kuala Lumpur (KL) and arrived home at 5:00 a.m. in time to wake Van up and give him big hugs, have a homemade "Momma" breakfast of fried potatoes, bacon, and French toast, jump in the pool when it opened at 7:00 a.m., and hit the streets of KL for some sight-seeing. We decided it would be better not to sleep and just "power" through the day!
Joe and Laine arrived at Terminal 3, which was brand new and immaculate! They even had a napping station where you could take a shower, nap for however long you wanted, get a drink, access the Internet, etc. It was really quite nice.
Changi Airport (Singapore) Departure Gates in Terminal 3 pictured above. I had some time to kill (about 6 hours) so I took the MRT (Municipal Rapid Transit) train into Singapore and had a little photo safari. Singapore is a very clean and beautiful city. Below are some photos.
MRT above. Notice how clean the floors are. There are sizable fines for eating or drinking on the train. Judging from the clean floors, I'd say it's a rule that everyone seems to follow.
St. Andrews Church. Amid the tall sky-scrapers of Singapore, there is a whole fenced block that houses the church. It was very beautiful and the grounds had old trees and a huge expanse of lawn.
The church was lit by flood lights and it really was quite beautiful and very fun to photograph.
Kiddie-corner from the church was this beautifully decorated building complete with a double-decker city bus cruising by.
We went to several malls in KL to look around. The Christmas trees are incredible. The one in KLCC Suria (which is adjoining the Twin Towers) is 7 stories tall! It's not real, but it pretty amazing. See photo below.
The tree at Times Square was about half as tall, but was very impressive. It's nice to see Christmas decorations in a place where most of the population doesn't celebrate Christmas. Of course the main driving force is retail sales, but I'm willing to overlook that because it makes Malaysia seem a little bit more like home.
We stood in line for our chance to take the elevator up to the 41st floor (the sky bridge of the KL Twin Towers) and take in the view. It was a beautiful day in KL and the view was wonderful. Below is the view as you stepped off the elevator. This is the view you'd have if you worked in the towers.
The sky bridge is a stainless steel marvel. The reflections in the steel of the ceiling was marvelous.
Here is a view from the sky bridge looking at the mosque that is near the towers. The prayers can be heard over the loud speakers from at least a mile around the mosque.
We leave on Friday for Bali. We are all excited and can't wait to get there. I can tell right now that the time is going to pass way too quickly. My goal is to enjoy every single minute of it to the fullest.
