Friday Night Out in Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bingtang

I actually took my camera out on a Friday night in Kuala Lumpur (KL). Here is a collection of some of the photos with descriptions. Some of the building in KL are a definite contrast with the new stainless steel high-rise towers of newer KL.Below is a typical street side stand. Some I would actually consider buying something from, others, forget it. Butt crack alert. Guess people drink too much and make fools out of themselves all over the world. This gal had trouble keeping her pants up and was escorted to her car and asked to leave. We got a pretty good view from our outside table at the bar across the street.
This cute feline was mesmerized by a neon sign. She looked up at us quickly, then went right back to what she was doing when we walked up.
Aah, a German restaurant in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. We haven't tried it, but might give it a try one of these nights when we are in the mood for something different.
Durian fruit is a Malaysian delicacy that smells worse than the worst bathroom you've ever smelled almost before you even open it. Apparently, it tastes great on the inside, but smells worse. Me, I've never made it past the smell on the outside to see what it actually tastes like on the inside. They use Durian to flavor things like ice cream, cakes, etc. It is also banned in most establishments because of the smell.
Below is a sign banning Durian without permission by the owner of the Chinese restaurant we ate at.
Some of the great food we had at Soo Kee Mee's restaurant. It's owned by a friend of ours, Jessica, whose brother has a stand across the street, but doesn't do as well. We had a wonderful vegetable called Nine Flower which was really tasty! It's like a tender chive.
Everything is cooked in the kitchen which is on the curb in the front of the restaurant. It gives everyone a chance to see what they are doing and I can imagine it's a lot cooler. There were lots of local fresh vegetables hanging around.
We'd just tell Jess what we felt like and she'll have it cooked. It was awesome! The chicken and beef satay is BBQ'd at a separate location in the restaurant and you paid for it separately, too. They are big on juicers and juices here. You go up and tell them what you want in your juice (2 oranges, 1 carrot, 1 star-fruit, etc.) and they add it to the juicer right then and there and you have your "customized" juice drink!
These cockroaches were the first I've seen since moving to Malaysia. They were enjoying "take away" curbside in the alley we used to cut across to get to the bars in Bukit Bingtang.
If you don't have an adventurous spirit, you can always go with the old standby. The Golden Arches are every where in KL and I've even seen frequent eater stickers for your car's windows around town. I didn't know it was something to brag about, but apparently so.
